Pendleton Scholarship Application

Dear applicant and future Belmont Abbey student:

The Pendleton Scholarship honors the life and legacy of Father Arthur J. Pendleton, O.S.B., a Benedictine monk, priest, educator, mentor, and beloved member of the Belmont Abbey College community. Throughout his life, Father Pendleton demonstrated a deep commitment to academic excellence, lifelong learning, service, faith, and care for others.

For 40 years, Father Pendleton taught chemistry at Belmont Abbey College, where he became known as a demanding but dedicated professor who challenged students to reach their full potential. His commitment to learning continued throughout his life, as did his dedication to serving and mentoring others. Students were drawn to his kindness, humility, willingness to listen, and genuine concern for their growth.

The Pendleton Scholarship recognizes students who reflect the qualities that characterized Father Pendleton’s life:

Academic excellence and perseverance
Intellectual curiosity and a desire to continue learning
Integrity, humility, and strong character
Compassion and service to others
Leadership through encouragement and example
A commitment to personal growth and purpose

More than a recognition of past achievement, the Pendleton Scholarship honors potential and purpose. A Pendleton Scholar is someone who will embrace the opportunities and challenges of a Belmont Abbey education, contribute positively to the College community, and strive to use their talents and education in service to others.

Through the students who receive this scholarship, Father Pendleton’s legacy as a scholar, teacher, mentor, servant, and lifelong learner will continue to inspire future generations.

Thank you for your application, and God bless!
